The 3rd International Postgraduate Course
on Functional Grammar was organized in conjunction with
the 12th
International Conference on Functional Grammar. The
course took place from 17 to 19 July 2006, the
Conference from 19 to 22 July 2006. The
postgraduate course enabled linguists unfamiliar with
the theory to prepare for the conference, but was also
open to those not planning to attend it. |

The teachers, all active researchers in
the field of Functional (Discourse) Grammar, were Kees
Hengeveld, affiliated to the Department of
Theoretical Linguistics of the University of Amsterdam,
The Netherlands; Lachlan Mackenzie, affiliated to the Free University Amsterdam, The
Netherlands; Mike Hannay, affiliated to the Department of English
of the Free University Amsterdam, Evelien Keizer, affiliated to the Department of
English of the University of Amsterdam,
The Netherlands. |

After a general introduction, the course
focussed on the basic principles of Functional Discourse
Grammar. In order to
prepare the students for the special conference theme of
ICFG12, special attention was paid to complex structures
in Grammar and Discourse in Functional (Discourse)
Grammar. The course language was English, but daily
introductory sessions were offered in (Brazilian)
Portuguese. |

García Velasco , affiliated to the Department of
English and French of the University of Oviedo, Spain; Kees
Hengeveld affiliated to the Department of
Theoretical Linguistics of the University of Amsterdam,
The Netherlands; Lachlan Mackenzie, affiliated to the Department of English
of the Free University Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and Jan
Rijkhoff, affiliated to the Department of
Linguistics of the University of Ĺarhus, Denmark. |

International Conference on Functional Grammar. The
Course took place from 17-21 June 2002, the Conference
from 26-29 June 2002. The postgraduate course enabled
linguists unfamiliar with the theory to prepare for the
conference, but was also open to those not planning to
attend that conference. |

The teachers, all active researchers in
the field of Functional Grammar, were Dik Bakker, Casper de
Groot and Kees Hengeveld , affiliated to the Department
of Theoretical Linguistics of the University of
Amsterdam; and Anna Siewierska, affiliated to the Department
of Linguistics of the University of Lancaster and
visiting scholar at the Department of Theoretical
Linguistics of the University of Amsterdam. |
